This morning in Pinehurst a group of volunteers got together to bag the gifts for the Back Pack Pals.
This year, the owner of the Village of Pinehurst restaurant Dougan’s donated gifts for the children in the Back Pack Pals program in the Moore County Schools. Several area residents and employees of the restaurant got together this morning to gather the variety of gifts into bags for each of the children. The gifts included pencils, pens, books, fruit, rulers, snacks and a few other items.
The Back Pack Pals is a program for school children who are suspected of not getting enough food over the weekend. Most of the children are in the free lunch program, and Councillors identify the boys and girls who appear to need a bit more food when they aren’t in school. Volunteers donate money, food and time to put a bag of food together for these children each week to take home on Friday. The program has been going on for about 4 years now and has grown to over 600 children in our county.
Each year some treats are given to the children to take home over the holiday. This year, Dougan’s restaurant in Pinehurst was very generous in his donation of gifts to the Back Pack Pals, and thanks to all the volunteers who came out to lend a helping hand.
