The Pinehurst area of North Carolina is most widely know for golf – However, Southern Pines is famous in its own right for the equestrian community known as Horse Country and for the many equestrian events in the area.
One of the most important reasons that Southern Pines is such a desired equestrian community is the Walthour-Moss Foundations. The Foundation was formed as a Charitable Trust to preserve the over 4,000 acres for equestrian purposes and nature. There many miles of groomed trails used by horses and their riders from all over the country. There are also many spectacular farms on the Foundation from which you can directly access these trails.
Southern Pines Horse Country has mixture of modest horse farms as well as some grand estate properties. The prices have come down in recent years as has much of the real estate in the area. More importantly, the number of horse farms that have sold is less than 1/2 of what sold in 2007 which was the peak of our market. This all means that there are some great buys out there right with approximately 40 properties on the market.
There are several other equestrian communities in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area. Here is a link to Search Equestrian Communities/Properties in the Pinehurst Area.
In addition to a wide range of horse farms and equestrian communities, there are many events throughout the area. Here is a link to the current month’s equestrian calendar.
