Pinehurst golf resort will host the 64th Donald Ross Junior Championship this week on Dec. 28-29.
The tournament is open to junior boys age 18 and under and have not completed high school. There will be 3 divisions – 11 and under – 12 to 14 – and 15 to 18. The first two groups will play on Pinehurst’s No. 1 course and the older boys group will play on courses 4 and 5.
The tournament began in 1948 as a tribute to the golf course architect Donald Ross who is well know for designing the famous Pinehurst No. 2 course. In addition to the 2 days of play for the juniors, there will be a father-son tournament on Friday, Dec. 30. Eligibility for the father-son round requires that the son has competed in the Junior tournament.
There will be more than 200 players competing in this weeks championship with Pinehurst area locals competing in all age groups. Some families have relocated with their children who have a strong interest in golf and have all of the many available golf courses and professionals to hone their skills.
