Friday, December 30

  • Rodger’s and Hammerstein Cinderella

    • This lush production features an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love.
    • Departing at 4 p.m. from Belk at Pinecrest Plaza in Southern Pines to Durham Performing Arts Center.
    • With Kirk Tours. Cost: $118–$168/person and includes ticket and luxury transportation. Will be returning around 11 pm

  • Skating Under the Pines at The Carolina Hotel

    • This season, The Carolina Hotel’s West Lawn has been transformed into a 2,100-square-foot skating rink complete with music, lights and festive cheer sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
    • Whether temperatures call for sweaters or shorts, guests will enjoy a skating experience unlike any other.
    • A tantalizing array of merry treats will be available, including s’mores bites, cookies, brownies, as well as hot chocolate, coffee and a full bar.
    • This event will be running through January 11
    • Skating sessions start at the top of the hour, last for 50 minutes, and cost $15.

    • The Town of Southern Pines and the Southern Pines Business Association have partnered together to bring your family a fun-filled New Year’s’ Eve event in Downtown Southern Pines.
    • Come out Saturday, December 31 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm for face painting, live music, games, a magic show and more!
    • We will ring in the New Year (a little early) at First Eve by dropping the pinecone at 8:00 pm.

  • First Day Hikes

    • Start the year off right by getting outside for one or all three First Day Hikes.
    • At 9 am
      • 2 Mile Hike on Weymouth Woods’ Paint Hill
      • This property has more elevation change than much of the Sandhills, as well as a rare plant called Pyxie-moss that blooms in winter.
      • Meet at the Visitor Center, Weymouth Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve, 1024 Fort Bragg Road, Southern Pines.
    • At 1 pm
      • 1-mile Boyd Tract hike through an old-growth, longleaf pine forest.
      • You’ll meet the oldest known living longleaf pine in the world, as well as the second largest longleaf in North Carolina!
      • Meet at the Weymouth Center at 555 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines.
    • At 3 pm
      • 2-mile hike with a ranger to see the different habitats within the longleaf pine forest.
      • Bring bottled water and wear comfortable shoes.
      • Meet at the Visitor Center, Weymouth Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve, 1024 Fort Bragg Road, Southern Pines.
